Before choosing your first scooter, there are a few things to check.

As with many other sports, there's no single use for a scooter. To help you make the right choice, we explain here how and why you should choose one model of scooter over another.

scooter: overview

There's a whole section on scooter that may seem complex at first glance, but is easily explained if you pay a little attention. Starting with the simplest: the intended use of the scooter. This is the key to finding an affordable and comfortable solution for you.

There are 2 specific types of scooter. There are 3-wheel scooters, for younger riders just discovering the world of scooters, and 2-wheel scooters, the most popular for city use, but also for those more committed to skate park . Here's an overview of the different models available at the Aix store.

The scooter 3-wheeler

Almost all 3-wheel scooters are designed for children who are just starting to stand up.

For the youngest, it is possible to add to this type of scooter comfortable accessories such as a seat, round handlebars and T-handlebars for those who are used to them. It is also possible to add a pole to certain models, for parents who wish to avoid bending down to push their child and avoid any accidents.

This type of scooter is available in various colors in our Aix-en-Provence store.

The scooter 2-wheeled city

The best-known classic. Available in different models in our store. The highly versatile Micro Sprite can be used by children and adults alike, thanks to its handlebars that can be adapted to a height of around 1m for taller children. It comes in a wide choice of colors.

The Speed + model, also from Micro, has wheels that are larger in size and width, as is the chainring, which increases stability and makes it much more versatile.

Last but not least, the Micro Suspension is the model with extra-large wheels, very practical for long distances, with a larger deck for greater comfort and stability, and the famous suspension that will cushion your runs down the sidewalk.

This entire range of urban scooters comes with a kickstand so you can park it anywhere, at home or in town.

The scooter Freestyle

For fans of thrills, jumps and tricks of all kinds, we've got a host of scooters from Blunt Scooter, including the new Prodigy in versions park and street, with a wide choice of colors.

What's special about the Trot' freestyle is that it doesn't fold, which makes it all the more solid and lightweight. Its large wheels make gliding faster and more pleasant at the same time. The "street" versions are generally a little taller, with wider handlebars to facilitate tricks, and feature "drop-out" at the end of the deck which opens up greater grind possibilities.

Spare parts are available for customizing your trott.

Choosing my scooter: what's it for?

To choose your scooter, you need to know how you're going to use it. Each model has its own specificity, and you need to study the various accessories carefully to make the best choice. Depending on whether you're looking for a long, fast ride or a lightweight Trot', you won't opt for the same model. Here's some additional information to help you in your quest.

COMFORT

- First and foremost, if you're a scooter nomad, don't forget that there are foldable models that you can take everywhere with you.

- Most adult scooters have handlebars high enough not to bend while riding. Take the time to try out scooter, bearing in mind that you'll be using it for long journeys, during which your position needs to be as comfortable as possible.

- Handle materials vary from one scooter to another. Most models come standard with soft plastic handles that resemble bicycle grips. For greater comfort, you can also opt for the foam version, which is much more pleasant to use, but less durable.

- Comfort can also depend on the scooter chainring (where your feet are placed). Models with a hard (plastic) deck are rigid and highly responsive. On the other hand, they don't offer the flexibility of wooden decks, which help reduce the vibrations created by rough roads. The width of the chainring can also vary, offering more or less space for your feet.

- Finally, some models are equipped with suspension (front, rear, or both). Reserved for long-distance scooters (and therefore rather heavy and cumbersome), these suspensions provide a significant comfort boost on uneven terrain such as cobblestones.

SLIDING

Not all scooters glide in the same way. In fact, depending on your equipment, you'll need to make more or less effort to move forward.

Wheel size is obviously the first criterion to come into play in this context. The larger the wheels, the easier the scooter will roll. Larger wheels make it easier to maintain momentum, and more comfortable to ride on rough roads.

The surface of the wheels also influences their performance. Most scooter wheels are made of hard Urethane rubber. However, there are models with soft rubber wheels that are more comfortable and offer more grip for "radical" use. Some scooters are also available with inflatable tires, enabling them to be used on all types of terrain with maximum comfort.

Bearings are an essential component for gliding. Here, it's quite simple: each bearing has an ABEC standard, so all you have to do is check which one it is. The higher the standard, the higher the performance of the bearing. For example, an ABEC 7 bearing will offer more glide than an ABEC 5.

And the rest?

The rest is a matter of taste. There are plenty of models available in different shapes and colors. But make sure you choose a brand that can offer you spare parts in case of breakage - it's always useful!
